Important Jail Policies and Visitation Procedures

Kittitas County Jail is operated by the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office. It is housed in Ellensburg’s Public Safety Building. The Kittitas County Jail (KCJ) was constructed in the 1980s to house approximately 45 inmates. The Annex was completed in 2012, significantly increasing bed space and bringing our total capacity to 209.
Corrections officers and control room operators work ten-hour shifts. While on duty, Kittitas County Corrections Deputies have full law enforcement authority under the supervision of the Sheriff.

New hires must attend and pass a 10-week (400-hour) Corrections Officer Academy at the Criminal Justice Training Center in Burien, Washington.

The Kittitas County Judicial System and the Kittitas County Jail believe in allowing inmates to remain productive members of the community while incarcerated. We offer minimum security inmates the opportunity to work off-site for County Maintenance, Public Works, the Fairgrounds Department, and Solid Waste.
We also offer work release, GED preparation, school release, and inmate work crew programs.
These programs are a privilege that can be revoked at any time.
