Important Jail Policies and Visitation Procedures

1.Visits are only permitted during the specified hours.
2.Smoking is prohibited within the Jail Annex.
3.The Rice County Sheriff’s Office is not responsible for any unattended personal items.
4.All visiting will be canceled in the event of a facility lockdown or emergency.
5.All visitors must possess a valid photo identification. The ID card must be issued by the government. On demand, identification must be presented to the correctional staff.
6.Every guest must be at least 18 years old. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian in order to visit.
Visits are limited to two adults and one child, or one adult and two children. Children must be constantly supervised; parents are responsible for their care while in jail.
8.Visitor duration will be limited to twenty minutes. There will be a “first come, first served” policy for on-site visits. If there are unresolved disputes in our lobby regarding the order of the visit, both parties will be asked to leave. The visiting hours for attorneys, probation officers, and clergy are flexible. These individuals will not be subject to the time limit.
9.Transferring guests from the lobby will not be permitted. All parties will be asked to leave if this occurs.
Visitors may be subject to a search before being permitted into the visiting area.
11.Visits are logged and may be supervised.
Any visitor trying to bring in firearms, explosives, alcoholic beverages, narcotics, or controlled substances will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
13.Anyone who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be denied access.
14.No cell phones, cameras, or other recording devices are permitted during visits.
No food or drinks are permitted in the visitor area. No food, candy, or beverages of any kind will be permitted for prisoners.
Socks, underwear, and t-shirts left for inmates must be clean, and colored underwear other than white will not be accepted.
The Rice County Jail will not accept any additional personal items, letters, or documents from visitors for inmates. If an inmate needs to sign documents, this should be arranged through the mail or with the inmate’s legal counsel.
We cannot accept books, magazines, or newspapers as donations for inmates.
Money for inmates may be deposited at the TurnKey kiosk in the lobby of the Jail or Annex. We DO NOT transfer inmate account funds to visitors.
Inmates are permitted to possess a small Walkman-style radio with “ear bud”-style headphones. Not permitted are metal headbands, cassette or CD players. There are no external speakers or antennas permitted.
Visitors are restricted to a single on-site visit per day.
Inmates are permitted two visits per on-site visitation session.
Visitors must arrive and register 30 minutes prior to the conclusion of visiting or they will not be permitted to enter.
A prisoner has the right to reject any visit.
We reserve the right to terminate or refuse any visit that poses a threat to the facility’s safety, security, or good order.
